NAVISP meets with the automotive innovation ecosystem in Abruzzo region

On February the 27th, NAVISP team representatives participated in an event hosted by the Radiolabs consortium at the Tecnopolo in the Abruzzo region in Italy, convening representatives of space and Automotive sector from academia and companies, to highlight the innovative character of the Italian Positioning, Navigation and Timing landscape in the sector.

The event featured several presentations from distinguished experts in the Automotive domain, including University of L’Aquila, Polytechnic of Milan, Hitachi and Stellantis, who identified the space and terrestrial technologies required for safe and efficient modern mobility, and their implementation plans.

The NAVISP team then presented an overview of the programme and related initiatives, detailing NAVISP's strategic objectives and opportunities for industry collaboration, as an outcome of the ESA Council at Ministerial level held in November 2025.  

Subsequently, ASI explored the satellite technologies applicable to the Automotive domain, in particular satellite navigation, and identified the links to current and future Italian initiatives.

Members of the Radiolabs consortium showcased the capabilities of the laboratory hardware and software facilities.

The event showed that, thanks to the collaboration between universities, industries, institutions and final technology users, new important competencies were  created, to face the challenges and to seize the opportunities in the field of the convergence between the space and automotive industries.
