SAPIENZA – Sapienza University of Rome

With a history that begins in 1303, the Sapienza University of Rome is the first university in Europe. The Department of Earth Sciences was founded in 1985 and currently is one of the four Italian “Department of Excellence” for the Earth Sciences within the years 2018-2022. The activity of the Department of Earth Sciences is mainly focused around teaching and research. However, it is in involved in a number of activities concerning the study of the causes of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, the observation and monitoring of natural processes, earth-surface processes, water resources protection and management, life evolution, global changes, oil drilling, protection and management of natural resources, applied and environmental geology, land use planning and many others, including basic research activities.
