Loctio is a newly established start-up (June 2019) that blends industry with academia expertise. Since the March of 2020 Loctio is also VC-backed as Metavallon VC led the pre-seed round. Its vision is to democratize IoT devices positioning throughout furnishing ultra-low power location estimation accompanied by advanced services like accurate positioning, anti-spoofing and position certification yet reserved for high-end professional systems. The company line-ups a founding team of ex-ublox employees, wireless and silicon industry pioneers and GNSS subject matter experts. Loctio flagship product Cancri (Location as a Service) micro-services framework represents a disruptive technology and business model as multiple positioning technologies like GNSS, LEO PNT & 5G positioning are being fused in the interest of a more robust, ubiquitous, and low power positioning. Signals are captured, sampled, and pre-processed at user equipment side while most of the sophisticated processing is applied to them at the Cloud or Edge. For the time being Loctio commercializes Cancri primarily for asset tracking applications that are sensitive to power consumption and sequentially battery lifecycle. Loctio features a close relationship with UAB SPCOMNAV as they have been cooperating in technology transfer funded projects between academia and industry like the Tetramax Bilateral technology transfer experiment. As for now the company enlists seven people spread in Greece (headquarters), Spain, and Japan. As of October 1st, 2021, when the incubation of Loctio by the ESA BIC Greece started, Loctio is officially enlisted into ESA start-up ecosystem. Loctio has participated in many research projects dealing with many aspects of satellite-based and terrestrial positioning, such as, SINGPOS – Smart city SINGle-node POSitioning testbed, Zubenion – Low Cost SDR Controller Software for Ionospheric Monitoring, OCTOPOS – Enabling Technologies for Advanced Positioning-Navigation-Timing Ground Support Networks and EmergencIndoor – Assessment of indoor positioning capabilities for LEO PNT.
