Chronos Technology Ltd is a high-technology SME with a 2016 turnover of £5.5m. Of the 45 full-time staff, two thirds are in roles that require high levels of technology knowledge and technical skill. Chronos has over 30 years’ experience in researching, developing and supplying time and timing generation, knowledge and measurement systems and GNSS and eLoran related components and solutions for industrial networks including the communications, energy and finance market sectors. Chronos provides expertise and solutions in two key areas: time synchronisation in communication networks, vital for high speed, high bandwidth applications which use fixed and mobile networks; and, GNSS derived applications that utilise GNSS signals which are increasingly part of every-day life but which have significant vulnerabilities to localised jamming. Chronos has an established research strategy closely engaged with academia, especially the Universities of Bath and Liverpool. Chronos has previously led the successful GAARDIAN, SENTINEL, GAUL and TimePort projects funded by Innovate UK and was a participant in the recent Horizon 2020 GMCA project. Chronos is currently delivering a Specific Contract into the European GNSS Agency, providing timing and synchronisation knowledge and expertise into an upcoming report into this market, and with Doble Engineering, the global leader in electricity supply testing to whom CTL have supplied over 200 units of the TimePort CSAC based GNSS system developed in a project funded by Innovate UK.
