On 27 January 2026, OHB Austria GmbH, prime contractor in a consortium with  Integricom and S&T Science & Technology B.V, presented the results of NAVISP-EL1-053 (MAGIE), which focused on the usage of Big data for the estimation of the integrity performance of GNSSs.

The MAGIE project developed a real‑time, big‑data‑driven GNSS integrity service based on crowd‑sensed user measurements. It introduced a scalable system concept, simulation strategy, and detectors addressing global and local feared events, including multipath and satellite‑based faults.

Large‑scale simulations with up to 10,000 receivers worldwide demonstrated reliable event detection, processing performance, and protection‑level computation across diverse receiver types, environments, and multipath conditions.  The results showed strong nominal integrity but sensitivity to clustered receiver distribution and heavy multipath.

The project concluded with recommendations for improved ephemeris‑fault handling, enhanced multipath modelling, and future machine‑learning‑based anomaly detection.

The activity was fully funded by ESA NAVISP Element 1, whose objective is to innovate PNT technologies. The slides can be accessed here.
