On 15 January 2026, a consortium led by Qascom, with OHB Italia, presented the results of NAVISP-EL1-062 (DEMOS-1) on the design, development and laboratory verification of a Lunar surface PNT Beacon demonstrator.
The DEMOS-1 project defined and tested a lunar PNT Moon Station that enhances LCNS navigation via differential corrections and beacon signals. It included preliminary design, thermal and operational analysis, and a testbed with LCNS receivers and simulators.
Experiments showed strong benefits from LCNS pilot signals, differential corrections and Digital Elevation Model usage, with sub-meter 3D positioning precision.
The activity was fully funded by ESA NAVISP Element 1, whose objective is to innovate PNT technologies. The slides can be accessed here.
