314 PG2A+ - Power Grid Guard Analyser +

Status: On Going

Activity Code: NAVISP-EL2-314

Start date:

Duration: 12 Months

PG2A+ is a secure energy resilience and asset-monitoring platform designed to support critical infrastructure operators in maintaining power continuity, operational awareness and trusted positioning evidence during normal operation and crisis situations. The project builds on the PG2A concept and extends it towards a more mature, deployment-ready product combining energy monitoring, mobile backup-power asset tracking, Galileo OSNMA-enabled PNT confidence assessment, predictive energy analytics and resilient field data acquisition.

Critical infrastructure facilities such as hospitals, energy-related installations, public-service buildings, logistics hubs and emergency-response organisations increasingly depend on reliable access to electricity and timely operational information. Power outages, grid instability, weather-related disruptions, insufficient backup-power readiness or lack of visibility of mobile generators may affect service continuity. At the same time, mobile power assets and field equipment require reliable tracking and trustworthy operational evidence, especially when they are used under service-level agreements or during emergency response.

PG2A+ addresses this need by integrating monitoring of internal and external power sources, energy-storage systems, power consumers and mobile generators into a single operational platform. The system is designed to collect data from field equipment through PG2A+ Collectors installed close to the monitored infrastructure. These Collectors can interface with meters, inverter controllers, generator controllers, communication modules and selected facility systems. The data are then processed by PG2A+ Core and presented to operators through role-specific dashboards, alerts and reports.

A key innovation of PG2A+ is the introduction of a PNT Confidence Indicator for mobile power assets. The system distinguishes between general GNSS positioning, Galileo OSNMA-authenticated positioning and fallback location evidence. Galileo OSNMA is used as an authentication layer for Galileo navigation-message data where available. It is complemented by non-Galileo GNSS positioning, radio-based trilateration or network positioning services, and accelerometer-derived motion evidence. This approach enables the system to classify positioning evidence into operational states such as trusted, degraded, fallback, suspicious or unavailable. The objective is not to replace GNSS or claim absolute protection against all positioning threats, but to provide a practical confidence layer supporting operational decisions, incident analysis and SLA verification.

The project also develops predictive energy-analytics capabilities. PG2A+ will use local measurements, historical data and external weather/solar forecast sources to support nextday prediction of photovoltaic production, power demand and backup-power readiness. The system may support operators in assessing whether a facility has sufficient autonomy, whether a generator or battery system should be prepared, and whether expected solar production or consumption patterns may create operational risk. This supports a transition from reactive backup-power monitoring towards more proactive energy resilience management.

The enhanced PG2A+ Collector is an important part of the project. It will be developed as a robust edge device capable of acquiring power, operational, PNT and health data; communicating securely with PG2A+ Core; buffering data during connectivity loss; reconnecting and resynchronising after outages; supporting selected industrial interfaces; and reporting local device-health and tamper-related events. The Collector is intended to operate in realistic field environments such as generator rooms, technical cabinets, depots, mobile generator installations and critical facility infrastructure.

The expected result of the project is a validated PG2A+ product baseline suitable for further commercial deployment. The project will provide the technical foundation for a recurring service model combining hardware deployment, SaaS monitoring, predictive analytics, secure PNT evidence and operational support for customers that need higher confidence in power continuity and mobile asset readiness.
