131 - European Global Navigation Satellite System based Map Assisted Train Localisation for ERTMS - EGNSS MATE

Status: On Going

Activity Code: NAVISP-EL2-131

Start date: 23/01/2023

Duration: 24 Months

The EGNSS MATE project aims to develop a solution for the problem of localising trains in an accurate and safe manner. Positioning information enables moving block operations in the European Traffic Management System, allowing capacity increases and fixed asset reductions on exisiting lines. Within this project, map assisted sensor fusion algorithms will be developed by DLR. The algorithm development will be accompanied by a measurement campaign using SBB vehicles, which will collect the necessary sensor data on most of the Swiss normal gauge network. Additional dedicated test runs to cover specific scenarios are planned. IABG will analyse the use of new Galileo services OSNMA and HAS within ERTMS and test the performance of the algorithms against jamming and spoofing attacks, which can be simulated in the lab. The results from this project will help to standardize localisation solutions and foster product development within the signalling industry by giving access to the developed algorithms and creating a test catalogue as basis for future product certifications.
