065 - ELORAN ANTENNA FOR HANDHELD DEVICES
Status: On Going
Activity Code: NAVISP-EL1-065
Start date: 28/07/2023
Duration: 18 Months
Enhanced-LORAN (e-LORAN) represents the latest advancement in the well-established and reliable lineage of low-frequency (90 to 110 kHz) Long-Range Navigation (LORAN) systems. It offers a Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) service suitable for all modes of transportation and various other applications.
The development of a miniature eLoran antenna marks a significant technological achievement. This breakthrough opens the door to handheld navigation devices that exhibit resilience in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) denied environments, such as underground locations, deep within buildings, or within conflict zones.
Objectives:
The primary goals of this project are as follows:
- Demonstrate the analytical and experimental critical functions of a handheld antenna operating at Low Frequencies (LF) for e-LORAN applications.
- Design, manufacture, and thoroughly test a prototype antenna within a controlled environment, thereby advancing the e-LORAN antenna for handheld devices to Technology Readiness Level 4 (TRL4).
