081 - Lithium Niobate Photonic Integrated Circuit Based High Speed, Low Voltage Modulators For Microwave Photonics

Photonic integrated circuits provide compactness and efficiency to technologies that require a clear path towards scale-up. High speed modulation is an essential capability for positioning, navigation, and timing, that requires a platform with strong electro-optic activities and ultra-low optical loss. Lithium niobate on-insulator (LNOI) is a promising platform that offers a large electro-optic coefficient while harnessing low optical losses, yet no foundries exist to-date offering a process design kit (PDK). Luxtelligence is the first commercial European foundry that offers ultra-low loss waveguides with a scalable manufacturing process, allowing large volume manufacturing of LNOI devices. In this project, Luxtelligence aims to develop a PDK approach towards this market gap and develop a verified library of components for realization of high-speed electro-optic modulators.
