217 - GNSS Snapshot User Terminal

217 - GNSS Snapshot User Terminal

Status: On Going

Activity Code: NAVISP-EL2-217

Start date: 10/01/2025

Duration: 15 Months

The GNSS-SUT project is targeting the snapshot technology market. Current tracking applications are usually done by conventional real-time GNSS receivers where the processing chain is done on board of the device. This comes with high power cost due to the computational effort required. In a snapshot-based approach, the computational processing (highpower demanding) load is done on a remote server rather than on the device itself. It is suitable for all applications which do not require continues tracking and would like to optimize on power usage and request data on demand. This project brings the various experiences together to take the next step in snapshot-based technology and to develop products and capability in Europe. The current market of suitable COTS RF Front-Ends (RFFE) for snapshot technology are very limited, not always covering the needs and are produced outside Europe. The latter makes it also difficult to include Galileo’s special features. This project consists of the development of competitive COTS RF Front-Ends (RFFE) suitable for snapshot technology, multi-constellation and capable of being adjustable for various applications, to be demonstrated via a proof-of-concept integration.
