The main objective of this activity begins with a Technology Review and Use Case Definition, focusing on analysing state-of-the-art VINS and SLAM techniques for handheld devices and identifying key use cases and performance metrics. The next phase involves Solution Trade-Off, Design, and Integration, where a proof-of-concept navigation engine is developed by adapting technologies from the automotive and robotics domains, integrating advanced sensors representative of premium handhelds on a breadboard platform. This is followed by Field Tests and Performance Evaluation to assess system feasibility and accuracy across diverse environments. Finally, a Roadmap for Commercialization will outline the necessary steps for product maturation and market entry, aiming to bolster industrial competitiveness and innovation.
