103 - PASQUALE (Precise and Stable Navigation with Quantum Accelerometer)
Status: On Going
Activity Code: NAVISP-EL1-103
Start date: 25/03/2026
Duration: 24 Months
PASQUALE (Precise and Stable Navigation with Quantum Accelerometer) aims at advancing next-generation positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) technologies. The project explores the integration of quantum inertial sensing with conventional GNSS and inertial systems to enhance navigation accuracy and robustness, particularly in GNSS-degraded or denied environments.
At its core, PASQUALE develops and demonstrates a hybrid navigation architecture that combines classical inertial sensors with quantum inertial technology based on cold atom interferometry. This approach enables improved long-term stability, reduced drift and higher resilience to interference and outages. The project includes the design, prototyping, integration, and validation of the quantum sensor within a complete navigation system, supported by modelling, simulation and field trials.
Ultimately, PASQUALE contributes to increasing the technology readiness level of quantum- enhanced navigation strategies.
