At Ericsson Research we are fully involved in standardization in all 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) working groups on the topic of positioning since Release 9, with a great track record on technology leadership in the area. Ericsson looks into both Radio Access Technology (RAT)-based and RAT-independent positioning methods to solve localization problems in use-cases such as public safety and natural disasters, Information and Transportation Systems (ITS) and vehicular and industrial IoT use-cases. We are continuously engaged in different research consortiums in Europe and worldwide on the journey of shaping the future networks. Future networks will be a fundamental component for virtually all parts of life, society, and industries, fulfilling the communication needs of humans as well as intelligent machines.
