Gustave Eiffel University

The Université Gustave Eiffel (Univ. Eiffel) is a university created in 2020 based on an innovative model bringing together for the first time in France the triptych of university/school/research organization, with the ambition of transforming life and cities. Univ. Eiffel is the fruit of a joint venture that began more than 20 years ago between a university (Upem), a research institute (Ifsttar), 3 engineering schools (ESIEE Paris, ENSG, EIVP) and an architecture school (École d'architecture de la ville & des territoires Paris-Est). The entity involved in this project is the GEOLOC laboratory, part of the AME (Aménagement Mobilité Environnement) department at Eiffel University. For more than 30 years, GEOLOC has been conducting research and providing expert appraisals on geolocation methods and systems to support changes in mobility practices and means of transport. The laboratory has set itself the objective of responding to the technological and societal challenges posed by digital transitions and greater connectivity for all transport players. Its activities are structured around two challenges:

1. Inventing geolocation algorithms using a ubiquitous approach:
  • Indoor/outdoor multi-sensor fusion
  • Respecting the protection of private data right from the technological layer
2. Defining and proposing standardized methods for evaluating location performance with regard to the needs of intelligent transport systems:
  • Road transport (connected and automated vehicles, public transport)
  • Passengers (shared transport, itineraries tailored to mobility profiles)
  • Logistics
To meet challenge no. 2 In particular, GEOLOC relies on academic and industrial partnerships and supports European policy on the approval of GNSS positioning systems and the use of GALILEO.
