Register for the Final Presentation of the NAVISP EL3 021 Project: "NavIN - Indoor Navigation - System Study of navigation solution based on commercially available technologies for mobile phone users "

We envision the world of the near future as a highly connected place, where the distinction between the digital and real worlds and the information visible and perceptible to the human senses and that contained in the digital image of our environment merge. A place where the user reacts to his/her environment in the same way that the environment actively reacts to the user.

The devices that each of us uses on a daily basis (smartphones, watches, tokens, cards) can sense the world around us - by image, radio signal, sound, or inertially. Compared to human senses, they have a major advantage - they can connect information with data and place it in a context that may not be familiar to humans. Devices can now derive new information from known and acquired data and feed it back to the user. The new, derived information is then again embedded in the real-world environment.

Our vision is to create a navigation system that would take advantage of this connection and provides the user with the maximum information needed to navigate in space. The key factors we consider are required accuracy in positioning on the one hand and the intuitiveness of the navigation solution on the others.  This brings real value to the use – users don´t choose whether they are following the real world (corridors, intersections, staircases, signs) or the digital world (maps, navigation instructions). They are watching one world enriched with useful information.  We want to create a solution that is natural and not limiting for people, solution that ordinary people reach for when they are unsure. Such solution brings countless benefits, enhances the market and strengthens the national operations, public safety and well-being.

The main  goal of this  NAVISP EL3 021 project was preparation of the Feasibility Study, where we proposed a viable solution that would be enable for indoor navigation. Initially, such solution can serve to the public authorities and companies needed for the sake of national cause, safety and health. By indoor navigation we understand a service that is capable of helping its consumers within closed spaces (typically buildings) to determine their location and provide a form of navigation aid helping the user to reach his or her desired target.

During the project, several tasks were executed and processed:

  • Collection of User Requirements
  • General Architecture and Technical Feasibility
  • Map Sources Processing Design
  • Technology Assessment and Validation (Wi-Fi RSSI, BLE RSSI, Wi-Fi RTT, GNSS, AR)
  • Infrastructure and Sensoring Data Processing Design,
  • UI and Mobile Application Technical Design
  • Business Analysis (economical and non-economic)
  • Solution Road Map definition

The project was carried out in the scope of NAVISP Element 3, which is dedicated to technology innovation of the European industry in supporting member states in their national navigation activities. The NavIN: Indoor Navigation System Study project fully fits into the "Digital Czechia" (Digital Czech or Digital Czech Republic) programme.
