New digitalization and automation applications in agriculture and automotive require precise GNSS positioning information in real-time, everywhere and always.
In regions with limited mobile internet access, farmers have to use commercial PPP or PPP-RTK corrections provided in proprietary data formats via geostationary satellites with low elevation and therefore with unreliable reception. The farmers have to pay for the service and have to purchase relatively expensive hard- and software solutions from global operating suppliers.
In the project SSRoverDAB+ the consortium evaluated, developed and tested software, hardware and system solutions for the transmission of high-accuracy GNSS corrections via DAB+. One focus of the project was the adaptation of a GNSS RTK sensor, which can already receive free governmental RTK corrections via mobile Internet and was upgraded in the project with highly available centimetre-level SSR corrections via low-cost DAB+ broadcast and fast convergence for RTK positions.
The project was carried out in the scope of NAVISP Element 2, which is devoted to supporting competitiveness of European industries.
