Register for Final Presentation of the NAVISP EL2-074 Project: “magicGNSS Back-End SAFEty”

The PPP magicBESAFE processor is an enabling item for an Assured PPP Correction Service, which has been developed by GMV within the NAVISP programme. The role of this element is to provide an integrity layer over PPP corrections generated for high-accuracy positioning services. This capability is necessary for high-accuracy positioning applications that are safety-critical, such as autonomous driving.

The safety of the positioning application requires the mitigation of the faulty events affecting the computation of the user’s position and a conservative evaluation of the remaining errors in the solution. For the latter, the concept of Protection Level is usually applied, defined as an upper confidence bound of the positioning error. In this frame, the magicBESAFE addresses the integrity of the PPP corrections applied in the positioning solution. It generates an integrity message that contains:

• Usability flags to prevent the user algorithm from applying faulty corrections.
• Error bounds to support the computation of the Protection Level by the user algorithm.

The magicBESAFE element, together with a corrections processor in charge of computing the PPP corrections, constitute the “Correction Service”. Therefore, the “Correction Service” as a whole, generates the PPP corrections and the integrity message. The set of PPP generated corrections includes:

• Satellite orbits and clocks.
• Ionospheric delay model.
• Phase biases for Integer Ambiguity Resolution (IAR).

The PPP magicBESAFE processor uses data from a set of monitoring stations to detect faulty corrections or degraded ionospheric conditions. It implements a set of monitors to check for possible faulty events and compute the integrity bounds. The development of the processor has followed a rigorous safety process to guarantee the integrity of the corrections message transmitted to the users.

The NAVISP Project EL2-074 “MAGICBESAFE" was funded by NAVISP Element 2, which is devoted to supporting competitiveness of European industries.
