Register for the Final Presentation of the NAVISP EL1-007 Project: "Cooperative Navigation and Cloud Processing"
Location information and location awareness have become a commodity in many aspects of our everyday life. Location-based services (LBS) and Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications are driving a constant push for improved low-cost/low-power mass-market navigation in most places of human and industrial activity. GNSS alone is not capable of delivering the positioning accuracy and availability required by these applications in the challenging settings where many of the activities take place. However, almost ubiquitous wireless network connectivity, together with the proliferation of cloud platforms where data storage and processing can be handled on demand, open the possibility of uploading data from user devices for processing in the cloud. Such data may include GNSS PVTs, raw observations, or RF data, but also a variety of additional sensors information.
The Innovative Cloud-based coOperative Navigation (ICON) project developed a concept demonstrator to study and assess the performance of innovative positioning and navigation techniques exploiting the concepts of collaborative navigation and cloud processing to improve the positioning solution performance in difficult environments. The cloud-based system combines diverse measurements from low-end sensors representative of the use cases of interest, in particular GNSS snapshot processing and COTS GNSS measurements, wireless communications, and other sensors.
The project was delivered by GMV NSL Ltd.
EL1-007 “Cooperative Navigation and Cloud Processing" was funded by NAVISP Element 1, which is dedicated to technology innovation of the European industry in the wide PNT sector.
