NAVISP EL2-146 "Road Maintenance & Condition Monitoring based on Satellite Location Data & Image Analysis"

Start date: 19/02/2025 14:00

End date: 19/02/2025 15:30

The NAVISP EL2-146 project focuses on demonstrating the value of frequent, large-scale analysis of road environments to enable proactive maintenance decisions. Central to this initiative is the integration of satellite location data and advanced image analysis, combined with innovative computational techniques to optimize infrastructure management.

The system leverages cutting-edge technologies such as re-identification algorithms based on precise real-world location estimates, GNSS location noise reduction, and efficient edge computing frameworks. These components ensure accurate and scalable data processing, enabling municipalities to transition from periodic assessments to continuous monitoring. By incorporating re-identification and tracking capabilities, the solution enhances daily operational efficiency, allowing seamless coordination of maintenance tasks among municipal teams and external partners.

A robust edge-to-cloud architecture underpins the system, managing data collection, preprocessing, and analysis. Edge devices handle localized processing to reduce latency and bandwidth demands, while cloud-based platforms aggregate and analyse data to generate actionable insights. This hybrid approach ensures real-time visibility into road conditions and supports long-term infrastructure planning.

The project aims to empower stakeholders with a user-friendly interface for visualizing road condition metrics, tracking maintenance progress, and allocating resources effectively. By enabling data-driven decision-making, the system paves the way for sustainable, cost-effective management of critical road infrastructure.

Funded by NAVISP Element 2, which drives competitiveness in Europe’s Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) sector, this project highlights the transformative potential of satellite technologies and advanced analytics in public infrastructure management.

Join the session to explore how this innovative approach can revolutionize road maintenance strategies and contribute to resilient, future-ready urban environments.
