Greek PNT Workshop – Exploring the Future of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing

Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) are fundamental to the functioning of today’s society. From telecommunications and finance to autonomous systems and satellite operations, PNT underpins critical infrastructure and services worldwide. However, the growing dependency on these systems has also highlighted serious vulnerabilities. Threats such as jamming, spoofing, and infrastructure failures can have wide-reaching consequences, particularly in transportation, emergency response, and financial services.

Equally important are the technical challenges ahead: improving accuracy, reliability, and availability in complex environments and ensuring smooth integration with interconnected systems.

Despite these challenges, the future of PNT is full of promise. New developments such as multi-constellation GNSS, sensor fusion, AI/ML, and alternative PNT technologies, including terrestrial systems and quantum solutions, offer exciting possibilities. These innovations not only bolster system resilience but also open new avenues in areas like autonomous mobility, IoT, robotics, and next-gen communication networks.

In this dynamic context, the Ministry of Digital Governance and the European Space Agency (ESA) are pleased to invite you to a special edition of the National PNT Workshop in Athens. The workshop will explore the current and future landscape of PNT with a spotlight on opportunities within ESA’s Navigation Innovation and Support Programme (NAVISP).
