Final Presentation NAVISP EL1-040 "Next Generation Network-Assisted PNT Assurance"
Over the past decade a series of governmental and scientific publications have analysed the impact that intentional interference, namely jamming and spoofing, aiming at falsifying the computed Position, Velocity and Time (PVT), has on several kind of critical infrastructure and user segments. Indeed, nowadays many sectors rely on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), for instance telecommunication networks, electrical grids and transportation systems.
The use for navigation of any signals not specifically designed for navigation, is usually referred to navigating using Signals of opportunity (SOOP). SOOP can be used either to complement, or to backup GNSS in case of radio frequency interference (RFI) such as jamming and spoofing.
The NAVISP-EL1-040 “Next Generation Network Assisted PNT Assurance (NG-NAPA)” activity, led by Telespazio UK, partnered with Thales Services Numériques, M3 Systems and Chronos Technology investigated potential system architectures for providing an end-to-end network-assisted PNT assurance service, which comprise: a reference network observing unpredictable signals, communicating to the users the information needed to exploits these signals, such as position of the antenna, clock correction and integrity information; and a secure time transfer service. Moreover, the activity built a network assisted PNT assurance concept demonstrator and performed a test campaign. This presentation will share the key outputs of the project and consider ways forward.
This activity was funded under NAVISP Element 1, which aims to increase European innovation in Positioning, Navigation and Timing. Please check the agenda and register for the event to learn more about this project.
