Final Presentation NAVISP EL1-075 “BEARER INDEPENDENT SECURE TIME TRANSFER”

Start date: 22/01/2026 10:00

End date: 22/01/2026 11:30

The study TWIST (Two-Way Independent Secure Time-bounding), conducted under ESA’s NAVISP-EL1-075 project, has seen a consortium made of Thales Alenia Space France / Qascom propose an opportunistic use of telecommunication constellations in order to provide secure timing to users of a TESLA protocol.
The TESLA protocol requiring users’ rough synchronization to system time, the initial provision of this synchronization is a challenge, and could be patched by the use of telecom constellations in expectation of dedicated secure navigation systems.
The design activities conducted in the project include proposition of a variety of architectures with varying complexity and Performances, along with secure synchronization algorithms.
A testbed experimentation shows the performance of the designed concepts, and illustrates the opportunity of using telecom constellations as a complement of GNSS to provide worldwide secure synchronization, in the expectation of high-performance dedicated systems.

This activity was fully funded under NAVISP Element 1, which aims to support innovations across the full PNT value chain. Please check the agenda and register for the event to learn more about this project.
