Final Presentation NAVISP EL1-073 "Trusted PNT for Unmanned Aerial Systems"
Start date: 13/05/2026 10:00
End date: 13/05/2026 11:30
The final presentation of the Trustworthy PNT for Aerial Systems (TOPASE) activity, developed by Thales Alenia Space France SAS with ABZero Srl, University Politechnica Timisoara (UPT) and Drone Volt under the NAVISP-EL1-073 activity, will summarize the outcomes of this initiative. The project addressed the rapid expansion of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) into mainstream applications and the resulting need for highly reliable and trustworthy Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) solutions. TOPASE focused on bridging the gap between evolving regulatory requirements and the technical design of multi sensor PNT systems for UAS, integrating GNSS, inertial sensors, altimeters, and vision based technologies. The presentation will detail the TOPASE methodology, the proposed integrity compliant PNT architectures, and key findings relevant to safety critical UAS operations, including alignment with current and emerging regulations and standards. Particular emphasis will be placed on how regulatory safety objectives can be translated into concrete technical design choices for UAS PNT.
You will gain insight into the adopted system-level approach, achieved reliability and integrity concepts, and the implications for increasing user trust and acceptance of UAS across industrial, agricultural, logistics, and emerging air mobility applications, as well as potential directions for further development and standardization.
This activity was fully funded under NAVISP Element 1, which aims to increase European innovation in Positioning, Navigation and Timing. Please check the agenda and register for the event to learn more about this project.
