NAVISP INDUSTRY SMARTLY DETECTS FINGERPRINTS IN INTERFERENCE. PLEASE REGISTER FOR THE FINAL PRESENTATION OF NAVISP EL1-051 "NEW CONCEPT FOR EVOLUTIVE MITIGATION OF RFI TO GNSS (ANTIFERENCE)" PROJECT

Start date: 15/07/2022 10:00

End date: 15/07/2022 11:30

Radio-Frequency Interference (RFI) can reduce the quality of GNSS signals and therefore of the output of GNSS receivers. Jamming and spoofing are two especially dangerous types of man-made RFI that are meant to either block the signals or fool the receivers. ANTIFERENCE investigated RFI-detection and classification units as part of a future smart RF front-end, which are capable of both detecting and mitigating RFI-induced disturbances. This front-end will operate as close to the receiver antenna as possible, to make it effective for a wide range of receivers. To improve the detection time, a fingerprinting algorithm is developed to record attacks in a fingerprinting database. This database accumulates knowledge of previous attacks and can be shared between different instances of ANTIFERENCE to allow for faster detection and mitigation. As the system can operate mostly independently of the GNSS receiver, it can bring value to many potential markets, especially when adopting different architectures.
During the ANTIFERENCE project, the following solutions were developed:
- A detection and classification neural-network model, capable of classifying many jamming types
- A fingerprinting mechanism consisting of fingerprint generation and a database
- A mitigation unit, with parameters customised to best mitigate the classified jamming signals

A detailed analysis has been done to characterise ANTIFERENCE performance and benchmark it against state-of-the-art COTS receivers with built-in mitigation.
EL1-051 "New Concept for Evolutive Mitigation of RFI to GNSS (ANTIFERENCE)" was funded by NAVISP Element 1, which is dedicated to technology innovation of the European industry in the wide PNT sector and was carried out by OHB Digital Solutions GmbH.
