Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) like GPS, Galileo and others enable positioning by determining the range between a satellite and an observer.  The apparent range (pseudo range) results from the observed travelling time of a signal transmitted from a satellite to a receiver multiplied by the speed of light.  The measured distance is affected by several error sources, including satellite orbit and clock errors, biases of the satellite and receiver hardware, as well as transit time interference from ionospheric and tropospheric effects.  These effects lead to inaccuracies in the real-time positioning of about 3 to 8 meters when using the satellite signals only.  

This quest for better global position accuracy within GNSS user applications is gaining momentum with Rx Networks core customers and markets. In this context the company developed the so-called Precise Point Positioning Realtime Kinematic (PPP-RTK) Data Service and Client Engine to provide both the correction service and client engine for both demonstrations and customers needing a client solution.    With the developed product Rx Networks can provide an affordable solution which will reduce integration costs, leverage existing services and provide confidence in the data delivered.  With both a worldwide PPP and regional PPP-RTK, they can offer a solution tailored to mass market applications with providing the correction data in an open, industry driven format at the lowest bandwidth to retrieve high-precision position accuracy in convergence times below 60 seconds.

The project was carried out in the scope of NAVISP Element 2, which aims to maintain and improve the capabilities and competitiveness of the participating States' industry in the global market for satellite navigation and, more broadly, PNT technologies and services.
