On November 6, 2024, over 60 participants gathered in Stockholm for the National PNT Workshop, hosted by the Swedish National Space Agency (SNSA) and the Navigation Innovation and Support Programme of the European Space Agency (ESA). The event highlighted the critical importance of PNT systems in modern society and provided a platform for exploring opportunities for innovation and collaboration within Sweden’s PNT ecosystem.
Key discussions focused on addressing vulnerabilities in PNT systems, such as jamming, spoofing, while enhancing accuracy, reliability, and integration with other technologies. Participants identified significant opportunities for collaboration in areas like jamming and spoofing mitigation, PNT corrections, and applications in automotive and logistics sectors.
The workshop underscored Sweden’s potential to lead in PNT innovation, leveraging its ecosystem of SMEs, research institutes, large companies, and market owners. Presentations showcased advancements in multi-constellation GNSS, sensor fusion, and alternative PNT technologies in areas like UAM, maritime and automotive.
However, to fully capitalize on these opportunities, there is a pressing need for increased investment in PNT research, development, and infrastructure. Expanding financial support will be critical to accelerating technological advancements, fostering cross-sector collaboration, and ensuring Sweden remains at the forefront of PNT innovation.
With robust engagement and one-on-one consultations, the event fostered strategic partnerships, advancing Sweden’s role in the European PNT landscape through initiatives like ESA’s NAVISP Programme.
