On Monday, November 07, 2022, M3 Systems presented the results of the NAVISP project “BB- PROC”. Over 30 people from industry and research followed the interesting presentation and the subsequent interactive Q&A session.
M3 Systems is a French engineering company, whose core business is the provision of precise geolocation solutions for various markets such as space, automotive and railroad markets. The expertise of the SME lies particularly in the development of test and measurement tools and software modules in the fields of critical geolocation and signal processing (GNSS), software defined radio developments, as well as in technical consulting and definition and studies of innovative concepts, such as for air traffic management (ATM).
The aim of the project was to envisage the development of a modular prototype for a GNSS software receiver that can be used, for example, in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) focusing on the development of a high performing and flexible module for GNSS signals baseband processing. The project represented the first phase of a future industrial development aimed at completing the software receiver architecture within the company (e.g., own RF Front End), enhancing the developed architecture of the correlators’ engine and consolidating the commercial offer (e.g., navigation module, development interfaces for users). Moreover, in the longer term, the company intends to establish the necessary development plans to make the step toward the development of their own ASIC (the solution is currently FPGA based).
The developed product "BB-PROC", a multi-constellation and multi-frequency GNSS software receiver is currently deployed in various markets. So far, the product has been implemented in four ground stations and integration in an SDR payload is planned for 2023. Consequently, the company was able to enter new markets such as science and consolidate its presence in aerospace and dual use applications in the short term. With this foundation and the competencies and partnerships it has developed, the company will also be able to strengthen its position in the automotive market enabling its entrance into the growing field of autonomous and connected vehicles in the future.
The project was carried out within the framework of NAVISP Element 2, which is dedicated to promoting the competitiveness of European industry, thus supporting the company with both project management and technical expertise over the last few months. Moreover, NAVISP will provide support for the next steps in the development of this promising product.
