On October 23, 2025, Exact Street presented the results of NAVISP project EL2-152 “GREENASPH4.0 – GNSS for Data Acquisition & 3D Milling and Asphalt Recycling.”

The project aimed to revolutionize road resurfacing by integrating GNSS-based data acquisition with real-time 3D milling and selective asphalt recycling. The goal was to improve road quality, extend pavement lifespan, and reduce environmental impact through digital automation and precision milling.

The system was designed, developed, and validated through a comprehensive process, including:

Development of GNSS-based milling algorithms and multi-layer milling techniques

Integration of real-time 3D modelling and cloud-based processing

Field validation using virtual and real prototypes across multiple pilot projects

Evaluation of cross-slope correction, smoothness (IRI), and recycling efficiency

Key results include:

  • GNSS milling accuracy improved 5×–10×, reducing trajectory error from 20 mm to 2–4 mm
  • IRI improvement from 5 m/km to 0.6 m/km and 98% cross-slope consistency
  • Surface height accuracy of 6–9 mm compared to total station measurements
  • Successful deployment in 20+ pilot projects across Czech Republic and Canada
  • Modular cloud architecture using Microsoft Azure for scalable deployment
  • Clear roadmap for global scalability and standardization of digital resurfacing

The project was co-funded by NAVISP Element 2, supporting the competitiveness of PNT technologies in partnership with European industry. The slides of the final presentation can be found here
