ESA is looking for new ideas in the field of positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) solutions under the ESA Navigation Innovation and Support Program (NAVISP). NAVISP is divided into three elements to maintain and improve European competitiveness and innovation from different perspectives. NAVISP Element 1, for example, focuses on PNT innovations that include novel concepts, techniques, technologies, and systems along the entire value chain-often in combination with other complementary solutions.

To compile the annual Element 1 work plan, NAVISP invites companies or academic institutions from all NAVISP Element 1 participating states to submit innovative PNT ideas, concepts, and solutions. Element 1’s scope of activities ranges from initial feasibility studies and viability analyses all the way to complete proof of concept for promising PNT systems and services. The projects under Element 1 typically last between 12 and 24 months, with budgets in the 400-800 k€ range.
The deadline for this year's work plan contributions is March 31, 2022. To start, we only need a simple 1-page description to NAVISP@ESA.INT that includes the contextual background, objectives, tasks to be performed, expected deliverables, as well as a cost and time estimation. In parallel, you should inform your national ESA delegation about your application.
