NAVISP SHOWCASES ACTIVITIES IN THE MARITIME DOMAIN AT A WORKSHOP OF THE ORDER OF ENGINEERS IN ROME

On April 17th, the Order of the Engineers of the Province in Rome hosted a workshop titled "Infrastructure, GNSS Systems and Services for the Maritime Sector," in collaboration with the Foundation of the Order of Engineers in Rome and the Italian Navigation Institute.

During the event, the NAVISP Team delivered a speech introducing ESA's activities in Maritime Navigation, highlighting the successful collaboration with the Italian Space Agency and local industry, while also providing insights and support for ongoing initiatives and future opportunities.

Other key speakers, among which a representative of the Italian Space Agency and representatives from the National Research Centre and from Italian naval and space industry, presented their strategies, views, technologies and products that are going to shape the future of maritime passenger and freight transportation and marine exploration and monitoring, pointing to a convergence between telecom and navigation space technologies, from oceanic navigation to berthing in a harbour.

Development and regulatory issues were also discussed, in particular concerning the development and adoption of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships, which are becoming of interests for legislators, investors, naval shipyards and maritime services operator for their potential capability to save resources, reduce operational expenditures and increase safety.

Around 30 engineers were physically present and followed with interest the talks and animated a final very lively round table with the speakers.
