The Intelligent Transportation Systems European Congress brings together experts from industry, academia, and government, to shape the future of transportation technologies and to enable safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation systems. The list of topics is broad, including deployment and analysis of Cooperative, connected and automated mobility (CCAM), emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality, societal and cultural aspects of mobility, and resilience for mobility.

Our Role

NAVISP and Future NAV’s participation reflects our ongoing commitment to driving innovation in the ITS sector. Invited as key contributors, the team engaged with leading thinkers and practitioners to exchange ideas, to showcase our latest projects, and to strengthen our network in an area where ESA plays a critical role as the system prime developing the main distributors of time and position in Europe through the Galileo and EGNOS programs.

Future NAV Programme manager Marco Falcone took centre stage

Marco was one of the distinguished panellists included in the Plenary Session Resilient by Design - Shaping a Competitive Mobility Value Chain. The panel revolved around resilience in Europe’s mobility and logistics ecosystems and strengthening their ability to withstand environmental, technological, and geopolitical uncertainties.

NAVISP Mission 1: Addressing PNT Challenges for CCAM through ESA NAVISP Programme

NAVISP chaired this session for a broad discussion of NAVISP’s role in enabling CCAM by enabling new technologies, supporting new product developments, and strategic infrastructure investments by member states in the ITS domain. NAVISP Element 3 manager Rafael Lucas Rodriguez moderated this session, and was were joined by NAVISP project participants in numerous exciting projects related to CCAM:

  • Irma Rodríguez Pérez from GMV Aerospace and Defence SAU presenting ENGINE – Enabling Next GeneratIon of Navigation sErvices (NAVISP-EL2-169)
  • Bertalan Eged from Sagax Communications presenting Cybersecure GNSS for Autonomous Mobility (NAVISP-EL2-109)
  • Francesco Valentini from Radiolabs presenting P-Car (NAVISP-EL3-012)
  • Maximilian Möbes from DiMOS presenting NAV4Future Mobility (NAVISP-EL2-156)
  • Lia Li from Zero Point Motion discussing F-SPIN - Optically enhanced inertial sensors for autonomous navigation (NAVISP-EL2-238)

NAVISP Mission 2: Space-based technologies for PNT in Road Mobility

This session focused on the PNT needs of Autonomous Mobility and ITS and how GNSS underpins solutions integrating other PNT sources to enhance safety, resilience and accuracy, as well as on how ESA NAVISP offers excellent opportunities to mobility stakeholders (industry, public authorities, and users) to develop the future of Road Mobility. The panel was moderated by Johanna Tzanidaki from SAE Group Europe and featured our own NAVISP Position Navigation and Time Competitiveness Engineer, Olivier Raphael Smeyers among the panelists, together with:

Irma Rodríguez Pérez, GMV Aerospace and Defence SAU

Vasilis Sourlas, Institute of Communication and Computer Systems

DR Nikolaos Tsampieris, ERTICO - ITS Europe

Michael Vardi, Valerann

Future Outlook

Insights gained at the ITS European Congress will inform our upcoming projects and strategies as we continue to push the boundaries of intelligent transportation technology. We are excited to apply these learnings to deliver solutions that address the complex challenges of modern transportation systems.

Acknowledgments

We extend our sincere thanks to the organizers, our fellow participants, and partners for making this event a success. We look forward to future collaborations and continuing our active role in advancing intelligent transportation systems through NAVISP and other Future NAV programmes.
