The International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) was held in Amsterdam 12th to 15th September 2025 under the motto of “Shaping the Future”. IBC is a significant event covering all aspects of broadcasting, film, television and radio, with a strong focusing on innovation, business opportunities and networking. This major annual trade fair for the global media, entertainment, and technology industry is held at RAI Amsterdam over 4 days. NAVISP attended on 12th September, connecting with companies developing new timing products and services for the broadcasting industry.
Precise time synchronisation is critical for broadcasting and has now been incorporated into industry standards, particularly as the industry has now shifted to Internet Protocol (IP) networks for media content production and delivery. SMPTE ST 2110 is a series of open professional standards defining how to transport video, audio, and data streams separately over IP networks with precise, microsecond-level synchronization. It enables real-time production and playout by allowing each stream to take independent routes across a network, ensuring accurate alignment through PTP clocks. New hardware and software is needed to meet these standards and enable the industry to achieve synchronised transport of audio-video-data. NAVISP is engaging with companies in the broadcasting sector to support these innovative developments.
