In late January 2022, Radiolabs, a NAVISP-supported company, presented its research efforts at EXPO 2020 Dubai.
In recent years, intelligent transport systems have become a major focus of research and innovation for safer and greener mobility. This strategic focus represents a priority for European development. An Innovation Hub has been set up in the Abruzzo region, east of Rome, to interconnect research institutions, vehicle manufacturers, satellite operators as well as large & small companies to enable innovative research programs focused on vehicle communication, accurate and secure localization and navigation using machine learning and artificial intelligence.
As a result, an innovative ecosystem has been created, including public-private partnerships to bring together various R&D programs involving the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE), space agencies like the European Space Agency, the University of L'Aquila, various stakeholders in the Abruzzo region, and many others.
In this context, the P-Car project, a NAVISP Element 3 activity, has been launched, which aims to develop and build a laboratory dedicated to the validation and certification of vehicle’s positioning systems for the connected and autonomous cars. The project aims to provide a simulation environment with hardware and software to enable virtual validations to evaluate the safety performance of connected vehicles and tracking devices under the stringent constraints of safety requirements that would otherwise require time-consuming, non-exhaustive and costly field tests.
