Final Presentation of NAVISP Project EL2-075 now available:
On Friday, February 25, 2022, NAIS S.r.l presented the results of the NAVISP project “DGAP- Drone and GNSS Applications for professional Surveys.” About 50 people from industry and research followed the interesting presentation and the subsequent interactive Q&A session.
NAIS S.r.L., short for NEXTANT Applications & Innovative Solutions, is an Italian SME that focuses on the use of space technologies to provide services and turn-key solutions for Air Traffic Management, Defence and Infrastructure management. With its expertise and years of experience in information and communication technologies, the company completes the whole Technology Transfer Process, passing through R&D Projects and industrialization and commercialization of products.
The project's main objective was to design, develop, and demonstrate an innovative set of services for the management and monitoring of construction sites while promoting the transition from traditional construction management to digital processes. To this end, various technologies and methods such as GNSS, drones, machine learning, tracking devices, and LoRa/BLE/WiFi were used to enable multi-level analysis and facilitate interoperability with existing systems.
The adaption of the DGAP system will allow the end-user to be supported in their current activities by providing a wide range of GNSS based services that meet their needs in managing and monitoring "moving" construction sites such as railroads. These services are grouped, on the one hand, in the survey support service, which aims to support the site manager's team in the regular assessment of the progress of the linear construction site thanks to the use of drones and ad hoc payloads (e.g., RGB camera, LIDAR sensors, other sensors). On the other hand, the daily monitoring services provide the site manager with continuous information about the presence on the site, as well as additional weather information required for daily monitoring.
Thanks to the support of NAVISP, NAIS S.r.L., together with its consortium partners ITALFERR S.p.a., AIVIEWGROUP, and PEOPLETRUST S.r.l. , has succeeded in developing a series of promising services that can be used and adapted in the near future by different actors to more efficiently and safely manage construction sites. Thus, the DGAP project will support NAIS to enter an adjacent market, namely the management of infrastructure construction sites, which can currently be considered as a "greenfield" and could therefore offer significant business opportunities for innovative companies.
The project was part of NAVISP Element 2, which aims to maintain and improve the capabilities and competitiveness of the participating States' industry in the global market for satellite navigation and, more broadly, PNT technologies and services.
More detailed information can be found in the slides of the Final Presentation.
