171 - Evolution of VEGA-C Hybrid Navigation Unit

Currently, most of the launchers rely on inertial navigation, which introduces fundamental limitations both at performance and economical levels. In this scenario, hybrid solutions making use of GNSS capabilities emerge as an interesting alternative. One of the most mature initiatives within Europe, promoted by ESA and AVIO, consists of the development of a hybrid navigation unit for the future VEGA-C launcher known as NAVIGA. In this context, the aim of this activity is to reinforce the potential of NAVIGA by incorporating capabilities offered by Galileo (dual frequency, dual RF antenna) and by implementing advanced processing algorithms and extend the use cases of NAVIGA to new mission scenarios.
