Zero Point Motion is taking a new approach to the design of micro-electro-mechanical (MEMS) inertial sensors by enhancing MEMS with light. Using our patented photonics-based optomechanical detection method, our sensors can be 10-100x higher performance than low cost capacitive MEMS devices. We're positioned to leverage the boom of silicon photonics in the semiconductor supply chain, and the proven advantage of optomechanical sensing in gravitational field research, to provide high performance inertial measurement units (IMUs) whilst maintaining the cost and size benefits of mass-market chipscale MEMS devices.
The goal of this project is to support the development of the FPGA hardware and software for control and communications which, together with the core sensing silicon, will form ZPM’s first commercial product, Eclipse - a high-performance, six degree of freedom IMU.
