284 - Enhancing Airport Operations with Innovative Satellite Performances Monitoring

Status: On Going

Activity Code: NAVISP-EL2-284

Start date: 06/10/2025

Duration: 24 Months

The increasing reliance on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and Satellite-Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS) like EGNOS for aviation navigation has highlighted the critical need for robust performance monitoring and interference mitigation. While EGNOS V2 has significantly improved GNSS accuracy and integrity in European aviation, its evolution to EGNOS V3 will bring dual-frequency, multiconstellation capabilities, demanding enhanced monitoring solutions. This project, a collaboration between ENAIRE (Spanish Air Navigation Services Provider) and PildoLabs (a satellite navigation SME), directly addresses these needs.

Building on ENAIRE's extensive experience with its RECNET GNSS monitoring network and PildoLabs' The OWL GNSS/SBAS monitoring software, this initiative aims to significantly advance interference detection and localization capabilities. Key developments include enabling The OWL to monitor future SBAS DFMC performance, developing advanced spoofing detection algorithms by integrating GNSS and ADS-B data, and introducing UAV-based jamming localization for rapid and mobile interference source identification. These advancements will bolster the resilience of GNSS-based aviation and strengthen the position of both ENAIRE and PildoLabs in national and international GNSS/SBAS performance monitoring.
