001 - COLOSSUS

Status: Completed

Activity Code: NAVISP-El2-001

Start date: 23/10/2018

The COLOSSUS product is a cloud-based GNSS data processing platform for autonomous and continuous ingestion and processing of vast amounts of crowd-sourced RINEX data collected from continuously operating GNSS receiver (CORS) networks.

It will take advantage of the availability of numerous public and private CORS networks that are routinely collecting RINEX data from multiple GNSS constellations at multiple GNSS frequencies. It will process the data and autonomously identify, isolate and attribute GNSS faults and failures into causation groupings. COLOSSUS will be able to identify common mode GNSS failures, constellation failures and single satellite failures by persistent monitoring across all GNSS constellations and all GNSS frequencies throughout different geographical scales and receiver network densities. COLOSSUS will be able to identify inter-GNSS failures and inter-GNSS dependencies within GNSS receivers by processing RINEX data from multiple GNSS receiver types.

It will build up database of probabilities of occurrences of anomalies and the associated consequential impacts of faults, failures and events per GNSS constellation, per geographical zone and per GNSS receiver type.

The goal is for COLOSSUS to become a key player for GNSS performance monitoring, GNSS fault reporting, GNSS investigatory analysis and for the assembly and provision of GNSS incident reports, warnings/alerts and reliability statistics (eg, mean-time-to-failure, mean-time-to-restore).

COLOSSUS will understand what levels of “trust” to place in GNSS and in doing so support the development of next generation GNSS applications that will build on open GNSS signals.
