University of Strathclyde

The University of Strathclyde has a strong focus on industry-facing R&D. The recently opened Technology and Innovation Centre houses 700 researchers and 45 bespoke laboratories, directed toward advancing practical technologies for industry collaborators. This facility includes a flexible 400 V microgrid, real-time power system simulation capabilities, and advanced digital substation technologies. The University also hosts the Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC). This is a purpose built high voltage and low voltage test facility with a dedicated team of research and development engineers. The PNDC focuses on de-risking smart grid innovations through rigorous and accelerated testing utilising state of the art physical and simulation based testing capabilities. The PNDC also holds regular stakeholder forums where DNOs and solution vendors define new research and development projects to address current and future grid operation issues.
