Maritime University Constanta

Formerly established in 1972, the Merchant Maritime Institute became a civilian institution in 1990 and in 2000 changed its name into Constanta Maritime University. Presently it is a public university accredited by the Romanian Quality Assurance Agency, being granted the highest awarding degree: most prominent level of confidence for quality assurance. There are currently around 4100 students enrolled at Constanta Maritime University and 130 teaching staff. Today, the name of the institution is Constanta Maritime University and it is seen, both locally and internationally, as a source of highly qualified labour force in the maritime field.

Internationalization is an essential vector in enhancing the quality of higher education. Research and scientific cooperation play an important part in internationalization. CMU is an active member of two major international networks, with high potential for students’ and teachers’ mobility and joint research programs: The International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) and the Black Sea Association of Maritime Institutions (BSAMI). The university is committed to maintaining and strengthening the cooperation with these network partners.
