University of Sheffield
The University of Sheffield is a research-intensive UK university, ranked within the 100 world leading universities. It has an exceptional record of research excellence with impact. The project is with the School of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (SoEEE). The SoEEE research focuses on many of the complex aspects of modern life, especially navigation, simultaneous localisation and mapping, tracking, positioning, data processing, and machine learning. Quantification of the impact of uncertainties on the developed methods with respect to data errors and environmental factors, sensor data fusion, methods for introducing autonomy including in aerospace engineering are key for the Sheffield’s team. The team has experience in calculating the impact of errors both methodologically and experimentally on the proposed solutions. This characterises the levels of trustworthiness of different methods and is an important factor for their practical implementations. The University of Sheffield activities are supported by the EPSRC, Horizon Europe, Innovate UK, industry and other sources. It has strong connections and activities with the aviation industry, robotics, water, manufacturing and other sectors. Key centres with testing facilities at Sheffield are the Integrated Civil and Infrastructure Research Centre (iCAIR), Sheffield Robotics and the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC).
