Register for the Final Presentation of the NAVISP EL1 004 Project: “Multi-System Multi-Sensor Maritime PNT Test Equipment (MSMSPNT)”
MSMSPNT, or Multi-System Multi-Sensor Maritime PNT Test Equipment, is an initiative performed under the ESA NAVISP programme to create a framework for testing GNSS and additional navigation sensors within a maritime setting.
Current IMO work on guidelines for shipborne PNT data processing define a high level framework for the processing and combination of data of multiple systems and sensors in a maritime PNT receiver. It is considered of paramount importance to complement this work with further studies on the combination of different sensors and systems in multi-system maritime PNT receivers in order to characterise and group the achievable performance.
Within MSMSPNT, GMV (GMV NSL Ltd) alongside Kongsberg Seatex AS have created a realisation of these IMO guidelines. A fully configurable software integrated hardware test platform for maritime PNT applications has been developed couple with a comprehensive set of maritime field data for testing and future research. Specific components include a fully configurable software based GNSS receiver, a positioning engine supporting augmentation and additional sensor data fusion, and an extendable data logging unit for the field collection of GNSS RF alongside additional navigation sensor. The system has been operated on a Kongsberg vessel with the resultant solutions being compared favourably to the required navigation performance parameters within the IMO guidelines.
The project ‘Multi-System Multi-Sensor Maritime PNT Test Equipment’ was carried out in the scope of NAVISP Element 1, which is dedicated to technology innovation of the European industry in the wide PNT sector.
