On December 4, in Brussels, Belgium, SAE International organised the event "Navigating Tomorrow: Urban Mobility's Future Challenges” with the support of NAVISP. This high-profile gathering explored the future of mobility through the lens of advanced Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) technologies.

The event was attended by prominent automotive manufacturers such as Volkswagen Group and Jaguar Land Rover, along with automotive tier-1 suppliers like Continental and Bosch. Their attendance demonstrated NAVISP's capability to interact with prominent industry stakeholders from diverse sectors, such as the automotive market, highlighting the programme’s influence and relevance beyond traditional PNT field.

A notable aspect of the event was its dynamic structure, with panel discussions proposing topics which facilitated later interactive roundtable discussions on critical topics. These discussions encompassed the development of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence in mobility, software-defined mobility solutions, traffic management, and projections on urban drone mobility. Participants had the opportunity to explore the increasing demand for resilient and reliable Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) systems, and the imperative need to enhance stakeholder awareness regarding the challenges and opportunities inherent in this domain.

Keynote speeches focused on aspects like the role of mobility and technology. Focal Point Positioning presented their NAVISP Project, giving a perspective on the kinds of innovations NAVISP could foster to achieve mobility goals.

The event was highly regarded, resulting in significant engagement and productive discussions. SAE International has proposed a follow-up event for 2025, highlighting  the crucial role of PNT in shaping urban mobility's future and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration through NAVISP.

By bringing together experts from different fields, NAVISP is helping to create a more connected and innovative future for urban mobility. The programme’s efforts are paving the way for new advancements that will enhance the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of transportation systems worldwide. With continued support and engagement from industry leaders, NAVISP is well-positioned to lead the way in navigating the future of urban mobility.
