189 - GNSS Interference monitoring and Notification to key Operators from Space-Phase 2 (GINKO-2)
Status: On Going
Activity Code: NAVISP-EL2-189
Start date: 01/10/2024
Duration: 36 Months
Due to the proliferation of jamming sources, localizing the source of RFI is becoming a priority. For GNSS users, especially the ones concerned with safety applications and critical infrastructures, but not limited to, it is imperative to be situationally aware of local GNSS interference.
The GINKO-S Phase 2 product encompasses the minimum system configuration necessary to verify the mission's operational concept and in-orbit demonstration of a first GNSS RFI monitoring service prototype.
The main objectives of Phase 2 demonstration mission are:
i. To prove the possibility to detect GNSS jammers and spoofers from space and to verify the minimum power level detectable by the payload.
ii. To demonstrate the ability to localize RFI emitters based on satellite measurements by the use proper algorithms.
iii. To demonstrate the ability to classify the different types of RFI detected by using algorithms and AI techniques.
Considering the very challenging objectives of the in-orbit demonstration mission and based on encouraging results of Phase 1, the project aims to consolidate some key aspects of the mission before entering the full development phase.
For this reason, a high-fidelity End-to-End system emulator will be developed, emulating the operation of the GINKO satellite formation and the ground processing chain in order to verify the expected system performance using synthetically generated data in realistic environment.
