Satellite navigation systems constitute a strategic asset for every nation. They are used for personal navigation, commercial aviation, military operations, crop and wildlife monitoring, and much more. Furthermore, the same systems provide the universally used reference signal for synchronization of remote systems. However, the GNSS systems currently in use, while offering high accuracy and global coverage, have proven vulnerable to two types of threats: jamming and spoofing, whether occasional or intentional.
GeoSTERN can be used in synergy or as an alternative to conventional GNSS systems, being immune to occasional or intentional interference that can affect reception of conventional GNSS signals.
Indeed, GeoSTERN provides a Positioning, Navigation and Timing system that may be used on all mobile travelling systems capable of hosting three directive antennas with a known altitude, or alternatively four directive antennas. Its great attractiveness for the end user is the capability (using a relatively simple and economical receiving system) to establish a precise ground position in the event of occasional or intentional unavailability of GNSS systems.
In addition to being a very interesting feature for cruise ships and transport container ships, the applications and needs are numerous. Ranging from fixed and mobile telecommunications to broadcasting, from energy distribution to Oil & Gas, from the control of road traffic to railway traffic, up to the synchronization of financial operations for banks and stock market operators.
In conclusion, GeoSTERN offers not only an innovative and alternative technological element compared to existing solutions, but it is also built upon real market needs, which it addresses through tangible commercialization — leveraging space expertise and knowledge to generate concrete terrestrial returns.
