123 - QUANTUM MAGNETOMETER AND ALGORITHMS FOR INTEGRATED MAP MATCHING AND MAP BUILDING
Status: On Going
Activity Code: NAVISP-EL1-123
Start date: 30/07/2026
Duration: 19 Months
Project Q-PNT-MAP aims to develop and validate an advanced multi-sensor navigation framework for resilient positioning in GNSS-degraded and GNSS-denied environments. The project exploits quantum magnetic sensing, inertial navigation, AI-assisted magnetic anomaly detection, and magnetic map-building to investigate robust localisation where satellite navigation is unavailable or unreliable. A modular sensor fusion architecture will be developed to integrate heterogeneous sensor measurements, enabling magnetic map generation, map matching, and navigation performance assessment under representative operational scenarios. Validation will be conducted through controlled field trials to quantify localisation accuracy, drift mitigation, map repeatability, and operational robustness. The project will establish the technical feasibility, performance limitations, and future exploitation potential of magnetic navigation technologies for next-generation applications.
