083 bis - DEPLOYABLE SATELLITE NAVIGATION ANTENNA- DANTE -
Status: On Going
Activity Code: NAVISP-EL1-083 bis
Start date: 12/07/2024
Duration: 18 Months
The main technical objective of the activity is the design of a prototype receiving antenna in Ka-Band for satellite navigation. To reach this objective, suitable antenna design solutions will be identified that may fit to small satellite platforms (eg nU Cubesats), by either being small in dimensions of deployable. The proposed design concepts must meet the requirements for navigation functions (that will be consolidated in the first stage of the activity), based on signals transmitted from LEO mega-constellations. Various antenna types with different characteristics (eg high directivity versus wide beam) will be reviewed. A trade-off study will be performed to select the most promising solutions (max 2).
The next objective is to perform a preliminary design for each of the two solutions and assess their performance characteristics based on the consolidated requirements.
The antenna design that offers the best performance will be selected for further development in Critical Design.
The ultimate objective is to construct a a breadboard of the antenna and verify its suitability for the navigation function.
