106 - Beamforming User Antenna for Wideband Radionavigation Signals in C-band.
Status: On Going
Activity Code: NAVISP-EL1-106
Start date: 20/10/2025
Duration: 18 Months
The EL1-106 MAGIC aims to address the development of a TRL 6 antenna array navigation receiver prototype, enabling PNT solutions in the C-band frequency, using the coming LEO- PNT IoD C-band signals.
The main objectives for this activity are:
- Develop a receiver with C-band signal processing capability (up to high signal-bandwidth)
- Extend the receiver processing to support ESA LEO-PNT IoD SIS ICD C-band signal & message definition
- Achieve a RFI threats resilient solution through dedicated null-steering and digital beamforming signal processing
The architecture approach is to combine the integrated antenna array and IQ sampling unit, with a post-processing software receiver enabling high flexibility in the algorithm’s development and experimentation.
The algorithm development is driven to support of the LEO-PNT IoD C-band signals (signal modulation, codes, navigations message) with their specific characteristics (high signal power, high Doppler, low ionosphere errors). The core activity however is to achieve a RFI threat resilience prototype setup implementing sophisticated null-steering and beamforming capabilities. These capabilities and the achievable performance have to be verified through experimentation in laboratory setups but also using test range environments with live-sky LEO-PNT SIS.
