079 - REDUCED SIZE ANTENNA FOR EARTH PULSAR NAVIGATION

Status: On Going

Activity Code: NAVISP-EL1-079

Start date: 21/04/2026

Duration: 12 Months

Compact Antenna for Pulsar based Positioning and Acquisition (CAPPA) project investigates  whether compact radio-frequency antennas can be designed to detect signals from pulsars,  which are fast-rotating neutron stars that produce highly accurate pulsation signals. Such  signals have the potential to support future autonomous navigation systems, especially in  situations where satellite navigation may be limited or unavailable. The project will explore  different antenna concepts, analyse their feasibility for real world platforms, and build a  small laboratory prototype to assess performance under controlled conditions. CAPPA aims  to provide a clear understanding of what level of performance is realistically achievable and  how such technology could evolve in the future.
